The Scrum Master assists their team in the delivery of software within an Agile environment. The role is highly visible as it supports and drives all aspects of the software delivery life cycle from elaboration to deployment, and collaborates with various levels of IT leadership. The position is responsible for coaching and developing teams by providing direction, creating opportunities for engagement, and removing impediments to support the company’s overall strategy and objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and/or ensure that the daily standup, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives are executed based on Agile best practices.
  • Partner with the product owner, development lead and QA lead to ensure that the team has an appropriate level of ready backlog.
  • Manage all aspects of the sprint planning ceremony ensuring the team is committing to an appropriate level of work considering cross team dependencies and team member availability constraints.
  • Coach the team improving their maturity of Agile and Scrum best practices, delivery and quality though continuous improvement.
  • Identify, track and remediate all impediments impacting the sprint commitment, raising blocks to management when appropriate and necessary.
  • Work with the product owner to ensure user stories are being appropriately ranked to deliver features as planned
  • Track and report team progress leveraging appropriate Agile metrics (burndown, velocity charts etc.)
  • Ensure the disposition of stories and tasks is accurate to reflect where the team is, within their current sprint
  • Work with other scrum masters for cross team dependencies
  • Protect the team from external interruptions
  • Represent the team throughout the organization on sprint demonstrations and coordinate with other teams on other dependencies such as user acceptance testing
  • Be the lead on severity one issues as it pertains to their team
  • Flexibility to lend a hand on all aspects on team delivery, testing, dev organization, release process etc
  • Escalate team member concerns to management when appropriate
  • Work on multiple teams within the scrum master role

 

This position will perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.
